Personally, I don't think interrupting a church service for the sake of protest is a good approach. It sure got them a hell of a lot of publicity though. They must have known the possible outcome of their actions and decided to act as martyrs.

As for your Mecca statement, people may not worship a rock in the middle of the desert but I see a great majority worshiping the TV screen in the middle of their living rooms.

I am grateful for the freedom I do have. I am thankful for my parents bringing me to this lovely country. I am not oblivious to the steady march towards a 1984 style existence.

I could not have typed it better (with one small quibble).

The band did not interrupt a service. The church severs a tourist function as well, like St. Patrick in NYC. I believe the band ought to have been find a small amount of money and some probation time (whatever that is in Russia). That punishment is for the folks praying in the cathedral, which ought to be inviolate anywhere. In the middle of a 'service' more so. If these girls don't get broken by prison or themselves, we may remember this day.

Blue light of judgement.

I think what would happen if a similar event had taken place at one of the Pentacostal Mega-Churches here in Phoenix. Would not have ended well.

Why? That would violate clear precepts. Sell your soul for some brick and mortar? It's all dust anyways. There eyes would be looking the wrong way.

I disagree. Maybe a small few young in their faith.

Rules are always broken. Without this fact, there would be no need for going through Communion, Confession, etc.

Rules are always broken, but you can always do everything you can do to lower the murder rate.

Communion is more about your relationship with Christ.

I do what I can, but if I was doing everything I could then I'd have to quit my job and abscond to an organic farm nestled in some fertile valley.

From the way my brain was programmed whilst I was a youngin, my relationship with Christ mainly revolves around the idea that acceptance of his love and wisdom can absolve me of my transgressions. So even if I kill some folks for starting a pussy riot, I can still go to heaven, right?

Even if I lead the Inquisition and wage a Holy War, I still have time to get good with JC.

Pardon my facetiousness, I just don't expect most people who consider themselves to be of some faith to actually follow the tenets of that faith.

Nevertheless, I must confess(!) that I was taught English by a devout Christian who heard the voice of God beckoning her to offer her services. We were in the public library and my parents were looking for books on tape for teaching English to children and they didn't have any. She stood against her logical mind at the urging of her heart and offered to teach me. An irreplaceable individual, a priceless, selfless act.

Indeed. What a wonderful gift you were given.

I don't understand why we humans can do such evil unto each other and still be in relationship with Christ. Of course that journey from evil to a relationship w/ J.C. involves a changing of the heart. But as you mention, you can backslide and call another Inquisition or molest 80 kids and you still get in. Even before the firing squad or strapped to a gunnery. I don't understand why (turning the other cheek I haven't even begun to understand).

I think if you are a person of faith you try and do the best you can everyday. What else can you do? No one can follow all the tenets of Christianity all the time. That's when I read of Christ's forgiveness of me it is a model of my forgiveness of others and hopefully others forgiveness of me when I have hurt them. If we were perfect we would not need such a teaching from Christ.

I've been there... lotsa times. Amazing how it's changed over time. It changed from an all-white enclave to the center of the largest Iraqi population in the US.
